Carina is a professional interior designer who focuses on the design of hospitals and health and wellness centers. Her passions include sustainability through building design and research, which she has been able to present at conferences.
Her research focuses on how sensory perception affects an individual’s performance, specifically within a healthcare environment. Carina’s most recent research explored the potential of emergency caregivers’ performance being directly linked to pleasant and unpleasant olfactory stimuli through testing physical, mental, and emotional attributes. Her expertise includes work in the healthcare interior design field as well as contributing to research focusing on the effects of user experience based on positive influential and unconventional methods. In September 2014, Carina co-presented “Blue Sounds, Black Smells” at the ANFA (Academy for Neuroscience and Architecture) Conference, and in June 2015, she co-presented “Scents of Efficiency: Designing for the Multi-Sensory Experience” at NeoCon.
